Lufthansa CityLine is fully owned by Deutsche Lufthansa AG. This regional airline, which celebrated its 45th anniversary in October 2003, specializes in European routes.
Lufthansa CityLine is responsible within the Lufthansa Group for operating flights on routes which would not be economically viable for the Boeing 737-500 or the Airbus A319, the two smallest aircraft types operated by Lufthansa German Airlines.
The airline fulfils three important functions:
- It helps to make Lufthansa’s route network more closely meshed, ensuring that sufficient frequencies are available to meet the growing demand for non-stop connections between Europe’s major cities and its regions.
- Second, Lufthansa CityLine plays an important role in developing new routes and opening up new markets.
- Third, it provides feeder services to the Lufthansa and Star Alliance hubs, in particular Frankfurt and Munich, thus making a contribution towards improving the quality of the network and integrating European regions into the global network.
